Every project starts with a site assessment.  Different shapes, deck layouts, mechanical spaces, and other details determine what cover will work and how it gets installed. For automatic pool covers on inground pools, the job includes measuring the pool, fabricating the cover to fit, running the track system, connecting the motor, and a full operational test before the team leaves.

Pool shape matters more than most people expect. A clean rectangle with open deck access installs faster than a pool with curves, limited clearance, or a mechanical room that wasn't designed for a cover. That being said, we can still install covers on unique shapes... It just requires a bit more preparation.

New Build vs. Retrofit: How Pool Cover Installation Timelines Differ

If you're building a new pool, the best time to plan for the cover is yesterday. The track and housing can be integrated before the decking goes in, which means a cleaner finished result and a system that runs with less resistance. Builders who loop us in early avoid the headaches that come from decking poured without cover track clearance. 

Retrofit automatic pool cover installation works on most existing pools. The deciding factors are pool dimensions, available track space along the deck, and whether the mechanical housing fits the site. If a retrofit has real limitations, our team will let you know your options.

Book in late winter or early spring and you'll have time to get the site assessed, the cover fabricated, and the job done before the season starts. What’s the Safety Standard?

Pool Patrol's covers exceed ASTM F1346-23, the current ASTM International standard for pool safety covers. It requires covers to support a minimum of 485 lbs, the estimated weight of two adults and a child, which is the load needed to carry out a rescue if someone falls onto a closed cover.
