Why Pool Patrol Supports Discovery House in Penticton

Discovery House is an independent addiction recovery program for men in Penticton. Pool Patrol has supported it for about 10 years, and sponsored a hole at the 15th Annual Discovery House Golf Tournament on September 19, 2026, at St. Andrews by the Lake.

Ask Allan Horwood how long Pool Patrol has been backing Discovery House and he'll tell you, "It's probably been 10 years of involvement." It started with one of our favourite pool builders (a client of ours for years), who went through the program in Penticton. Allan saw what it did for him, and that was enough. "We felt it was a great fit for Pool Patrol to be giving back."

Discovery House runs 2 recovery homes for men in Penticton, and since 2007 it's helped more than 300 men recover from drug and alcohol addiction. The program runs 90 days and can stretch up to a year if someone needs more time. Allan puts it more simply. "It's a guys-only facility, giving these gentlemen the opportunity to put their lives back together."

Why Discovery House?

Allan likes that it's small and local, and that it works. "It's a non-government organization. Obviously, they get some government funding, but it's not run by Interior Health," he says. "It's a little independent thing, and it's highly effective."

He also likes knowing where the money goes. "The dollars are very much appreciated," says Allan. "The money that we give goes directly to the guys at Discovery House."

The 15th Annual Discovery House Golf Tournament

Allan calls the annual golf tournament one of Discovery House's most popular fundraisers. This year, it landed on Saturday, September 19, at St. Andrews by the Lake. Golfers got 9 holes, games, an auction, and dinner.

We sponsored a hole, and 4 of us went down to play (you'll spot us in front of the Pool Patrol sign). Allan's favourite part has nothing to do with the scorecard. "It's a great team building thing. The 4 of us get together and laugh. There's dinner, there's auction items," he says. "It's just a good one."
